Jade Emperor Pagoda

The Jade Emperor Pagoda (Chùa Phước Hải) was inaugurated in 1906, and is located in Saigon District 1.  The temple originated as a temple of a Vietnamese-Chinese sect which taught a syncretism of Buddhism, Taoism and Confucianism.  The temple has had a checkered history [see Tim Doling, 2014, Exploring Hồ Chí Minh City, Thế Giới Publishers].  The principal deity of the temple is the Jade Emperor Ngọc Hoàng Đại Đế.
